The 13th Conference of the Jesuit Colleagues of Business Education was held at Marquette University, July 8 -11th, 2010. The key-note address, "Bernard Lonergan SJ - a powerful intellectual foundation for business studies", proposed a philosophy for business schools and a set of skills for leaders, that would enable both to creatively address the global business challenges of our times.
Sixteen participants met after the conference concluded to examine this proposition (see Background below), and to see where it might lead, in practice. Our discussion began somewhat experientially, honouring the method by which we experience and name our own operations of conscious intentionality, or the foundation to which Lonergan refers.
This blog provides an opportunity to continue our discussion and share the insights we have concerning our own personal exploration and appropriation of Lonergan's method....

I mostly needed just more thinking and intro to Lonergan's thinking paradigm. I'll be incorporating some things in my fall courses. I'll update as it happens! JAG
ReplyDeleteThe sense of community and courageous enquiry was palpable during the workshop. Sincere thanks to John for his courage in choosing to facilitate a space where philosophical enquiry became possible.
ReplyDeleteIt was genuinely reassuring to witness the consistent interest in matters of the heart, of feelings and emotions as they relate to the Lonergan approach.
The resonance around the room with "spark" was equally impressive and confirms all that is gracious about the life that God has granted us.
Silence is a mysterious state that touches us all in different ways and this became clear as the workshop progressed.
Does silence form part of our deepest being, I believe so. As the Exercises of St. Ignatius so clearly show us, the state of silence invites Him and allows Him to work great miracles in our hearts and in our lives.
